Aquacel® Hydrofiber® wound dressing
Our subsidiary, ConvaTec, has a worldwide franchise in moist wound therapeutics and is constantly looking for new concepts and technologies to improve care. Acordis Specialty Fibres is a world leader in fibers and textiles for medicine and hygiene, seeking opportunities to provide sustainable growth for their enterprise.
The two companies began exploring dressings for exudating wounds, where better absorption would improve the healing environment. Based on ConvaTec's vision, Acordis developed fibers that interact with wound exudate to form a soft gel for moist healing. which became Aquacel® Hydrofiber® wound dressing, a patented dressing that absorbs three to four times more exudate than gauze and twice as much as the leading alternative dressing.
ConvaTec leveraged its global development, registration, and marketing expertise to guide clinical testing, obtain registrations, and educate the clinical community. Aquacel® was rapidly accepted in Europe, U.S., and Japan. And the partnership is continuing to develop improvements in wound care.
