Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer

As senior vice president and chief information officer, Paul von Autenried leads Bristol-Myers Squibb’s BioPharma IT organization, a community of information technology professionals whose work is increasingly central to the company’s BioPharma strategy and its mission of helping patients prevail over serious diseases.

Paul joined Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1996 and assumed leadership of IT in 2008. Under that leadership, the IT organization has focused on delivering enhanced tools and technologies to help teams better manage, share, and analyze a rapidly increasing amount of information, both within the company and with an extended family of external partners. These include platforms for improved collaboration, data management, data security, document management, application integration and mobility, as well as new systems in support of a more holistic customer model that focuses on the many aspects of a patient’s journey.

“The degree to which information, generated within the enterprise and created outside the company, is effectively and efficiently managed, shared, analyzed and acted upon will be the key differentiator of the next-generation BioPharma,” he says.

Prior to joining the company, Paul held positions with Kraft General Foods, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM.

He is a member of the Accenture CIO Council, Hewlett-Packard Board of Advisors, Microsoft Pharmaceutical Advisory Council, and the Research Board.

Paul holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s in computer science from Stevens Institute of Technology, and completed the program for management development at Harvard Business School.
