management review, developed a new safety assessment, and established
a unique training program exceeding expectations of local authorities.
- The facility EHS manager has been selected as an external evaluator
for the graduation projects associated with the faculty of science at
Cairo University, and helped integrate the education centers of the
Universities of Tanta, Mansourah and the Environmental Modern Academy.

emphasized in all Environment, Health and Safety related activities,
such as June Safety Month, Quality Means Safety, and the Feedback, Ask,

preparedness training program, which he has presented to Bristol-Myers
Squibb employees and at the local university. The program uses a unique
approach and has been very well received by audiences.
- Plant personnel review the emergency response plans with civil defense
organizations. Moreover, external emergency responders participate in
fire drills at the facility to simulate possible actions in case of
an emergency.

about plant operations and promote a positive relationship in the community.
- An Arabic language health and safety guidance manual is used at the
facility to train those employees who have limited English language
skills.

EHS training. Training topics include proper waste handling and spill
control.
Environmental Performance
- The Giza facility has been awarded the crystal of EHS excellence seven
times.
- Hazardous waste incineration has been switched from a rotary cement
kiln to a high-temperature kiln (2000 degrees Celsius), which will avoid
emissions of dioxins and furans.
- Employees at the Giza facility have initiated a feasibility study
for recycling the plant's industrial effluent water. Currently, industrial
water effluent is sent to the city sanitary drainage system. A pH control
system has been installed at the plant to adjust the wastewater effluent
prior to sending it off-site.
- Personnel at the plant use a shredding machine for solid waste to
reduce the volume and cost of waste disposal.
- The boiler is monitored for combustion efficiency and to meet local
environmental standards.
- Employees have eliminated the use of benzene, ether, and Florisil
on-site.
