Facts and Figures 

- The Guangzhou facility is on a site of approximately 60,000 square
meters.
- The facility was commissioned in the third quarter of 1995. It produces
powder nutritional products in cans and pouches.
- Employees at the Guangzhou facility are pursuing certification to
the ISO 14001 standards. The facility has achieved ISO 9002 certification.
- The new lab was expanded in June 2003, from 170 square meters to 520
square meters, to support the growing business and effectively test
products in order to ensure product quality.
- In February 2004, the pouch packing room was expanded and the powder
handling system was upgraded to improve production capacity.
- In March 2004, a new blender and double-head pouch machine were installed.
Economic Development 
Community and Social Progress 
- The Guangzhou facility received the award as an "advanced enterprise
of safety in production, fire fighting, and transportation" in
2001, given by the local government safety committee.
- The facility was awarded the distinction of "Garden Plant"
of the Guangzhou Economic Development Zone for 2002 and 2003.
- There are five shuttle bus lines on-site for the staff. The buses
pass through the heart of the city and allow the employees a convenient
and safe ride home
- The Guangzhou facility did not experience any lost time accidents
in 2004.
- An EHS management program for contractors has been developed. It requires
all the contractors on-site to learn and follow the facility's EHS policy
while working at the facility.
- A forklift driver examination procedure was established in 2003. The
new procedure establishes appropriate forklift driver training and verifies
and assesses the results.
- In order to prevent products from falling from the racks in the warehouse,
the racks have been reconstructed and shortened in width to suit the
pallet.
- Three procedures were established in 2004 concerning bio-safety/agency
inspection/ working environment and height-working.
- To improve accident prevention controls, two procedures were updated
in 2004 concerning confined space/chemical management.
- To prevent the property loss resulting from the impact between the
truck and loading flat, the buffer was redesigned and an additional
10cm of buffering material was added.
- In 2004, the facility received the Safety Excellence Award as a result
of achieving the annual EHS goals.
Environmental Performance 
- The Guangzhou facility maintains a good record of waste emission.
- In 2003, three water ring vacuum pumps were replaced with water-free
vacuum pumps, reducing the amount of water used at the facility by approximately
100 cubic meters per operating day.
- In 2004, the refrigerant R22 was replaced with R411b in chillers.
This increased energy utilization by approximately 15 to 20 percent,
and eliminated the use of ozone depleting substances.
