Plainsboro, New Jersey
Facility Information
PLAINSBORO, NEW JERSEY
WORLDWIDE MEDICINES
Facts and Figures

- The Plainsboro facility is located on 106 acres on Scudders Mill Road
in Plainsboro, New Jersey.
- The complex consists of three five-story office buildings situated
around a large landscaped common area. Adjacent to each building are
convenient parking decks and parking lots. A network of walkways allows
travel between the buildings and parking areas. An additional link between
the buildings is provided at the basement level where an underground
concourse is located.
- The commitment to quality materials extends to the building's mechanical
systems, where advanced technology has been utilized to ensure maximum
comfort and safety. Three passenger elevators serve each floor. The
heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems continuously monitor
temperature, air circulation, and energy consumption.
- Fire, life safety, and access control systems also utilize the latest
technology. The complex is constructed with fire resistant materials
and is protected by automatic sprinklers. Fire extinguishers and smoke
detectors are located on each floor.
- Floor layout within the building has been designed to maximize efficiency
and provide an open working environment. Each floor is approximately
40,000 square feet in area, and the L-shaped configuration allows for
flexibility.
- No chemical manufacturing or major chemical processing operations
take place at the site. The primary activities at this facility involve
sales force training and administrative functions geared toward supporting
the BMS Sales Force.
- Sustainability 2010 Goals
Economic Development
- The facility directly contributes to the local economy through employee
wages and benefits.
Community and Social Performance
- The facility has adopted the Bobolink (dolichonyx oryzivorus) as part
of the company's Sustainability
2010 goal to encourage each facility and business to help protect
endangered species and habitats.
- The Plainsboro campus was awarded Wildlife Habitat Certification by
the Wildlife Habitat Council in 2004. Ongoing efforts of the Plainsboro
Wildlife Habitat Team include a bird box monitoring program, wildflower
planting, establishing no-mow zones, wildlife walks around the forested
areas of the site and familiarization tours of the Audubon Societies
Plainsboro Preserve. The site is currently pursuing annual Wildlife
Habitat re-certification.
- The Plainsboro facility celebrates Earth Day annually with special
events such as a children's poster contest, seed give-away, and presentations
by local environmentally friendly organizations.
- In April 2004, Bristol-Myers Squibb received the Beacon of Safety
Award from the New Jersey State Safety Council. The award is for outstanding
and continuous achievement in occupational safety over the last five-year
period. Through this award, Bristol-Myers Squibb is recognized by the
council as a company whose commitment to safety consistently achieves
excellent results and serves as an example to all of the highest level
of commitment to the safety and health of its employees.
- The Plainsboro facility has received the Corporate Safety Excellence
Award for the years 1998 through 2005 for achieving and/or exceeding
safety goals.
- Based on safety performance indicators, the Plainsboro facility has
continually achieved New Jersey State Safety Council award status, most
recently receiving the Governors Award for
Continued Excellence 2005.
Environmental Performance
- The Plainsboro Campus applies a variety of structural and managerial
approaches for best stormwater management practices. A majority of the
stormwater on the Campus is managed in a stormwater detention basin.
Additionally, previously mowed areas around the Campus are becoming
fallow fields to reduce stormwater runoff and increase groundwater infiltration.
Managerial efforts to reduce stormwater impacts include developing water
use reduction plans that will ultimately reduce stormwater discharge
and holding household hazardous waste days where employees can bring
in their household hazardous wastes for disposal. For additional stormwater
information, see our brochure (1.67 MB PDF).
- Environment, health & safety (EHS) and sustainability programs
for Plainsboro are managed in concert with the Lawrenceville operations.
Descriptions of these activities are available on the Lawrenceville
facility page.
