Management Systems

Bristol-Myers Squibb has complementary management systems pertaining to environmental, social, and economic performance.

EHS Management Systems

Our EHS management system (EMS) provides a structure for implementing sustainable business practices within Bristol-Myers Squibb. The purpose of the EMS is to ensure continued compliance with internal and external requirements. The Bristol-Myers Squibb EMS encompasses the following:

  • EHS Guidance, which provides employees with information to support compliance.
  • Employee training and awareness, which are targeted to new and experienced employees and ensure that technical and non-technical staff understand their EHS responsibilities and requirements.
  • Corporate evaluation process, which is designed to verify the consistency of business operations with internal and external technical EHS and transportation requirements and to assess the adequacy of management systems in place at the company’s operations to support on-going compliance. The results of the EHS evaluations are used as feedback to corporate, business unit, and facility management to maintain and continuously improve EHS performance companywide. All manufacturing and research and development facilities, plus key distribution and office locations, are evaluated on a frequency that ranges from 18 to 60 months. The frequency depends on EHS and business risk factors, and on the maturity of the facility EHS management systems.
  • Operating Results Database, which tracks EHS performance in terms of air, water, and land releases; safety statistics; and resource consumption. The operating results help gauge the effectiveness of the overall EHS management system.
  • Feedback mechanisms for internal and external stakeholders to communicate with management and identify opportunities to improve the management system.
